Shrimp Masala Fry

Shrimp is one of the biggest reasons I love being a non-vegetarian. To quote Bubba from the movie 'Forest Gump' - "Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That-that's about it." He said it all except for this super simple mallu recipe for Shrimp Masala Fry :)

Ingredients:
1 lb raw, shelled, deveined, medium sized shrimp
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
3 tbs ginger-garlic paste (preferably fresh)
2-3 tbps olive oil (or any vegetable oil)
1 sprig curry leaf
1 cup sliced onions
2 capfuls vinegar
Salt to taste

Method:
Wash the shrimp and put into a pan along with turmeric, red chilli powder, ginger-garlic paste and salt. Mix well, sprinkle some water and boil just till the water evaporates. Heat oil in another pan. Fry the onions and curry leaves. Add the shrimp and saute on a low flame. Add the vinegar. Let it fry on low flame till the shrimp is moist and a bit brown/crispy on the sides. Serve hot with steamed rice or simply as an appetizer.
